We tried for a repeat of last week however, the fish weren't quite as cooperative. The day started off with 1 member of the crew a no-show. We shoved off at around 8am and went to Bay Park for some bait (clams). There we met up with Charlie. Although he has his own boat he had no crew so we gladly took him along and off we went. At first we saw a dragger and worked his wake a bit. But between the MegaByte and the 30 other boats, I saw not one fish being caught. So we headed west in the 30 foot range and started drifting our fresh clams. It took a little while then Charlie had a promising hit. A short while later he landed a spunky little schoolie. Soon, he had 2 (or 2 and a half as he called it). Then I landed one that measured just 28 inches. We decided to let it free and see if we couldn't get something a bit better. From then on, for a while it was all skates. Then Charlie was into a nice fish. He played the fish expertly and when it came into sight, I put down the net and ran for the gaff. The fish was a hefty 35" fish and was soon in the cooler. Then I had a short and then a 29+ keeper. It too went into the cooler. Somewhere around now Bob was beginning to feel left out. It just wasn't his day. The day went on much like this, mild action with long empty drifts in between. Then a move to deeper water and Bob had his first fish. A keeper too. One more each for Charlie and I and that was about it. Final score, Charlie 4 (& a half), I had 3 (& 2 halves) and Bob had one (infinitely better than his last trip!) Charlie, it was nice to have you abord. Ronnie, one day we'll work it out.
