It blew like heck for 2 or 3 days straight and out of the east. It's true what they say, wind from the east, fish bite the least. Well, we took our 1/2 bushel of clams to the reef in four foot seas and did our best. The numbers were good, but the fish were small. We must of had about 60 sea bass, but only 5 keepers. Interestingly, I cannot not catch striped bass it seems. I thought I had myself a record blackfish when, to my surprise came up a 24" striper. We tried 2 spots on the reef and then decided to save the day with some bass. We shot over to our regular spot and found a barren ocean. Not a taker in 4 drifts. It was 2 o'clock and we were ready to run in when I recalled as we broke the inlet the depth finder was alive with marks. We went back and it was still showing some good signs. So we set up for a drift and wham, the 3 of us were into fish, and, the 3 of us lost all 3 fish! I marked the spot and we tried again. I looked at the loran and said this is the spot, before I could finish the "t" in the word spot, I hooked up and landed my second striper for the day. We went back for another drift and again I commented about the numbers on the loran and wham. #3. On the next drift, Allan (Windiz) looked at the Loran and said something about the numbers and that it was time for me to catch another one, and I did just as he finished the sentence. Bob & I were laughing, but Allan didn't seem so amused. We did a final drift and Bob landed a nice bass like mine, All about 26 inches. While this was not a bad day, there will be better days ahead.
