Dave & Dennis drove up from Penn the night before for a day of fishing on Saturday. Allan arrived promptly at 7 and after a slow start we drifted around a bit at the Rockaway reef. What can I say except it sucked. So, back to plan-A. Off to 17 for some blues. This was Dave's first day fishing ever. Dennis has done some before but most of what we showed him was all new to him. Once at 17 things looked great. Before the chum started 2 blues- Dennis & Dave were hooked up and before we knew it there was a frisky 4 pounder flopping on the deck. Dave's was lost at the boat, then, things died. Allan was trying deep and then he hooked up. With a sea bass caught on a slab of mackerel! So I rigged up a bottom rod and enjoyed the most incredible action I have ever had on the bottom. The blues continued to be very spotty but the bottom was hot with fish of all sized including a few monster porgies and a pair of triggerfish caught by Dennis. Sea bass were coming up 2 at a time! Around 1 the wind started to blow up around 20 knots and by 2 we were thinking of leaving. With a strong following sea, we were back at the dock by 4. It was an incredible day.
