Tom, Mark, Steve (Bubba) & myself abord the White Rose
With the same exact crew we had on the Freeport Hudson Anglers shark trny, we knew we had a winning team. The weather called for light and variable winds so we decided to take the Aruba boys boat. The White Rose. A 28 foot mako powered with twin 200's. This is a wet rocket! And not for someone my age, but I figured "what the heck". Mark flew in last minute from his home in Florida and we met at the boat by 4:30am. We were a little late out of the start, but we found ourselves already on our second can of chum when some other boats were announcing they had 6 miles to go yet before they reached their spot. The White Rose is a very fast boat. On the way out there was an annoying little chop and a lot of wakes so Tommy kept it to just under 40 knots. I had to hang onto anything I could find and make sure it was strong too. There was no relaxing but we made the 40 mile trip in amaizing time. As for the fishing, well, as predicted, the wind died and we were having asll sorts of trouble with our lines. We had a good amount of bluefish all day which helped provide us with fresh bait and chum. Still no takers. For a while we tried power-drifting, but this wasn't so hot either. At around 3pm, with one more can of chum left, we decided to go back to the wreck near the start of our drift so many hours ago and use it there. As we stopped, we saw a mako cruising on the surface but he seemed uninterestind in eating anything we had to offer. After a sharkless day, we made the 40+ mile ride back at around 48 MPH and got back in less than an hour. It took me 3 days to get my hair back to normal and my bones ached for 24 hours. But it was an absolute blast. Too bad we didn't score another mako!!!
